Chiang Mai — Personal Records Companion

I had been meaning to sort out my records for years. When I finally sat down to do it with the companion, I realised just how scattered everything was. The templates made a real difference — not overwhelming, just practical. By the end I had a folder that actually made sense.

Bangkok — Plain-Language Information Series

The information series helped me understand things I had been too embarrassed to ask a lawyer. It was clearly aimed at people without any background in these matters, which is exactly what I needed. The notes they gave me have been useful more than once since. I would have liked slightly more time on the Thai-specific legal terms, but overall it was genuinely useful.

Chiang Mai — Family Legacy Programme

We had been talking about "doing this properly" for a couple of years. The Family Legacy programme gave us a reason to actually sit down together. The facilitator was patient — she did not rush us and gave space for things that came up unexpectedly. Our adult children found the shared summary very helpful.

Chiang Rai — Personal Records Companion

My mother passed last year and we spent months tracking down documents and contacts. I did the Records Companion so my own family will not face the same. It is not complicated — that was what I needed to hear. You just follow the steps.

Phuket — Plain-Language Information Series

As an expat with property in two countries, I was not sure which questions to even be asking. The information series helped me frame things properly — and the team was upfront about where I would need a qualified lawyer. That honesty was actually quite reassuring.

Chiang Mai — Family Legacy Programme

My father and two sisters did the Family Legacy programme together. Things came up in those sessions that we had never spoken about directly. Nothing was forced — it was more like a structured conversation than anything formal. We left with a document we all agreed on. That alone was worth it.

Case Studies

How specific situations unfolded

Case Study 1 — Personal Records Companion

Challenge

A retired couple in Chiang Mai had records spread across three locations — a filing cabinet, a bank safe-deposit box, and an email account that one of them managed. Neither had a complete picture of what they held.

What was done

Working through the Personal Records Companion over three weeks, they identified, labelled, and consolidated their documents. The guided checklist surfaced three accounts they had both forgotten and one policy that needed updating.

Outcome

A single organised folder covering all key contacts, documents, and account details. Both spouses knew its contents. Took approximately four weeks from start to finish. Both subsequently engaged a local lawyer for the next step.

"We thought we were fairly organised. It turned out we were each half-organised, in different ways."

Case Study 2 — Family Legacy Conversation Programme

Challenge

An adult son living overseas wanted to begin planning with his widowed mother in Chiang Mai, but found it hard to raise the topic without it feeling morbid. His two siblings in Thailand were reluctant to engage at all.

What was done

Three facilitated sessions were held over six weeks, with the son joining two remotely. The sessions covered where key records were held, the mother's preferences for the future, and a shared understanding among the three children of what steps would come next.

Outcome

A written family summary agreed by all four participants. The reluctant siblings found the sessions less difficult than expected. The family subsequently engaged a Thai lawyer and notary with a clear and shared brief.

"I did not expect my brother to find it useful. He is the one who has kept the summary."
